What Your Revenue Breakouts Say About Your Business
A clean revenue breakdown helps you understand what is growing, what is profitable, and where your team spends its time.
Separate the work you actually perform
Track inspection, service and repair, and construction separately within each discipline. A single combined revenue line can conceal declining inspection accounts, uneven project timing, or weak service margins.
Use consistent definitions
Agree on how jobs are coded with your accountant and operations team. Define service and small-install work consistently rather than automatically treating every replacement as construction. Reconcile job records to the ledger each month.
Read revenue alongside margin and cash
Compare each category against the prior period, budget, labor cost, and collection history. Track renewal losses separately from new agreements so a growing top line does not hide customer churn.
Make the report useful to your team
Assign a report owner and review exceptions monthly. Investigate missing job types, unbilled work, and unusual margin changes. Use the findings to improve scheduling, pricing, and customer retention.
